This brought to mind a tea time passage that was written by Rose Wilder Lane, where there was an ending of something wonderful and a new beginning of something to look forward to. During the summer of her seventh year, Rose, daughter of Almanzo and Laura Ingalls Wilder, graphically recalled her memories of her families preparations for the promise of a new life and a new home in Mansfield, Missouri.
Rose Wilder (photo source)The wonderful thing they must leave behind was their close knit family, Ma and Pa Ingalls, sisters Mary, Carrie, and Grace. As sad as they were to leave De Smet, South Dakota, they were looking forward to a new life in the "Land of the Big Red Apple" in the Ozark Mountains. Having saved enough for a new start in the new state, early on a July Monday in 1894, Almanzo, Laura, and Rose said their farewells to their family.

After making all the proper travel preparations, the night before they were to leave, they went to Ma and Pa Ingalls to say good-by. Dressed in their Sunday best, they set off on the dusty walk just as the sun was setting. Rose wrote: "Grandma said, when she saw us, "You aren't going to travel in your good clothes are you!" And Mama answered softly, "No Ma, we put them on because we were asked to supper and this is our last evening."
(photo source)"You needn't have dressed up for that, child," Grandma said. But she had put a white tablecloth on the table, and baked a dried-apple pie, and when she saw me watching her pour out the tea, she told Mama it wouldn't hurt me for once, and gave me a grown-up cup of cambric tea. I had always wanted one, but when I tasted the hot milky water then, I felt as if I were drinking tears. We all sat there eating around the white tablecloth in the kitchen and it was and ending, we would never be in Grandma's house anymore."
We put on our best tea table for the blog-a-thon and now must bid good-by to this event, cherish all it sweet memories, and find something to look forward to. I hope to give you just that, something to look forward to. I so enjoyed La Tea Dah's blog-a-thon that I am borrowing her idea for one of my own and you are all invited to attend!

Week four will be about sharing books and music. Laura had a great love of books and music. Books were a rare treat in Laura's young life and she devoured them when she could get them. Music was a part of her every day life be it Ma humming as she worked, Pa's fiddle playing in the evenings, the family singing together, or Mary's organ music. What songs and books are special to you. Do you have a favorite memory that you associate with a book or song? Link up this week and share it. Also, tell why you love the Little House books and any memories you have associated with them.
This last week of the art swap your kit will include a little book made from vintage sheet music and some images of Laura. You will create a cover for your book and fill it with your own creative touches and embellishments. Each page should include a quote from favorite books or a line from favorite songs, and identification of the book or song title. Be sure to visit this weeks book passage for some of Laura's musical memories.

This will wind up the blog-a-thon with one last link up featuring your cherished family heirlooms. Ma Ingalls most prized possession was her little china shepherdess which rested upon a hand carved bracket made by Pa Ingalls as a gift. Show us something or more than one thing that has been handed down to you that you cherish and plan to hand down to the next generation. Tell us the story of how it came to be in your family, why it is special, and who you plan to gift it to.
This is the day the art swap items are to be completed and mailed and I should receive them no later than Monday, July 7, 2008.
This is the post where you will sign up for a special give away. More will be announced on this later. The winner of the give away will be announced on Monday, July 7, 2008.

Me again! Although the art swap sounds like something I would enjoy, I'm trying not to commit to too many things this summer. I will definitely be participating in the weekly postings though. :0)

Once again....your blogs have grabbed my heart with another of the things that I love. I love Laura and have seen every episode at least a dozen times. I just read the complete series of books this past year after purchasing a "vintage" set on Ebay. I even got a replica of Ma's little statue. I really look forward to reading this months blogs. I adore all of your stories.
Miss Sandy I love your site! It is so neat. Thank you for the kind words you left on my site.
I have another site Red Tin Heart please feel free to visit.
xoxo Nita
Miss Sandy - I loved your post. I don't think I'll have time to participate but I too loved every single minute of Laura's escapades. I will follow your posts and be envious of all the fun you will be having with this exciting Laura Blog-athon! Thanks for your sweet comments on my son, Adam! Have a blessed week! Vickie

This is a wonderful idea and I will be joining you on Monday. However I can't do the art one because I live in Canada the postage and handling will cost too much. Thanks for putting this one.

What a lovely idea! I will be participating in the blog-a-thon and will look forward to seeing what everyone else posts. Thanks for doing this.
Oh, I will be reading!! I just adore Laura and the Little House--if you have ever been to my blog, you will know I love Little House---LOL--You have to have sound though to hear what my blog plays when you open it up. I came by through Kelli's blog, and like her I can not commit to any thing, but I will be reading and commenting when I can :) I am so excited for this --yay:)

Miss Sandy, what a wonderful idea! I loved little house and reading Laura's work growing up, being from Minnesota had something to do with it! What beautiful things you have put together :)
I'd love to be included in this , although I won't manage the Art swap I'm afraid. However, the blog-a-thon sounds great, I have ideas spinning around in my mind already.
What fun! I would love to be a part of the Art Swap if you still have space. I still have my set of LIW books I received over 30 (gasp!) years ago for my 7th birthday. They are well-read and well-loved.
What a great idea. I grew up on Laura and Little House on the Prairie, books and TV show. Almost everyday I dressed up in the long gingham dress and bonnet my mom made me, and pretended to be her. We also made the trip to Missouri one year.
I love to creat art stuff! I would love to participate! I have sent you my address by email.
Blessings,
Diane
I am looking so forward to making myself a cup of coffee and reading all of you LIW posts. I was and still am a huge fan. I wanted to be Laura when I was little and actually had the exact same bonnet! Also, thank you so much Miss Sandy for the well wishes for my son!!!! This is such a great idea!
